American sprint star Noah Lyles and his fiancée, Jamaican relay athlete Junelle Bromfield, publicly professed their Christian faith in a joint baptism at Alive Church in Orlando, Florida. A video of the moment was shared Sunday, Sept. 28, on Instagram.

The couple, both Olympic medalists, were immersed together as Lyles posted the Bible verse Joshua 24:15: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Relevant Magazine reported the baptism, which marked a significant spiritual step for the pair whose athletic careers have brought them international acclaim.

Lyles, who became engaged to Bromfield in August 2023, is one of the world’s most decorated sprinters. He has competed in the 60 meters, 100 meters and 200 meters, and is an eight-time world champion, including the sprint treble (100m, 200m and 4x100m relay) at the 2023 World Championships. He is also a four-time world champion in the 200 meters.

At the Olympic Games, Lyles won gold in the 100 meters in 2024 and bronze in the 200 meters at both the 2020 and 2024 Games. His personal best of 19.31 seconds in the 200 meters is the American record and the third fastest time in history. Mozzart Sport noted he is only the second man, after Usain Bolt, to win four consecutive world titles in the 200 meters.

Lyles has also spoken openly about his personal struggles. “I have asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and depression,” he wrote on X in August 2024. “But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become. Why Not You!”

That same month, he praised Bromfield for her resilience and faith despite criticism she has faced. “She has been through so much in her life that I could never imagine fighting through,” Lyles wrote. “Beyond that she is a survivor, 2x Olympian, Olympic medalist, multi world championship medalist, and has been representing Jamaica on the world stage since she was 8 years old. But the most impressive thing I’ve seen recently is how she’s dealt with the pure disrespect and hatred towards her from her own country. This woman has been attacked by people who have never met her, heard her name before, never seen her smile, or heard what she believes in. She keeps moving forward knowing that God will always make a way. That’s why God keeps blessing her.”

Bromfield has competed in sprint and relay events such as the 400 meters and the 4 x 400 meters relay. She won bronze as part of Jamaica’s women’s 4x400 meters relay team at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She has also earned medals in the 4x400 relay at the World Championships, the World Indoor Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
