Today's Devotion:
"WHAT is THAT"

My former pastor, Perry Lassiter sent the
following to me.
"I was watching a football game on TV about
20 years ago.
The camera scanned the crowd.
There was a man holding up a sign that read
'JO 3:16.'
An announcer asked, 'What's THAT?'
Another announcer said, "I dunno. Looks like
Job 3:16."
(Job 3:16 is where Job is lamenting his birth!)
(JOHN 3:16 is another story altogether!!)

__________SCRIPTURE__________

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.
KJV

__________THOUGHT__________

Actually, John 3:16 was the Scripture base for
the first feeble attempt I made at preaching.
And, I have used it many times since.

Bro. Perry had asked me to preach the
"Layman's Day" sermon.
He didn't know it, but I was already struggling
with God about surrendering to the ministry.

Before that Sunday, I had prayed and asked
God, "If You really want me to preach, please
send someone to make a confession of faith
that has not been talking about it beforehand."

After that feeble sermon, a 12-year-old girl
came down the aisle and made a confession
of faith in Jesus!
Her mother had been my wife's Maid of Honor
when we got married.

I had studied for two weeks, and developed a
sermon with 8 pages of notes!
The sermon lasted about 8 minutes!!

That was 45 years ago!

It is NOT the MESSENGER that is important!
It is the MESSAGE!!

Love ya!

    Today's Devotion:
    "DECLARE the LOVE of CHRIST"

Colosse was a prominent city in Phrygia,
    the area of Asia Minor.
Colossians was written to address and
correct the errors which came by false
    philosophy.

    __________SCRIPTURE__________

    Col. 1:3-8
3 We give thanks to God and the Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always
    for you,
4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ
Jesus, and of the love which ye have to
    all the saints,
5 For the hope which is laid up for you in
heaven, whereof ye heard before in the
    word of the truth of the gospel;
6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all
the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth
also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and
knew the grace of God in truth:
7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear
fellowservant, who is for you a faithful
    minister of Christ;
8 Who also declared unto us your love in the
    Spirit.
    KJV

    __________THOUGHT__________

Epaphras (vs 7) was raised in Colosse, and
    now he is with Paul.
That's how Paul knew about the church in
Colosse and their "faith in Christ Jesus, and
the love which ye have to all the saints." (v4)

The members there had the "HOPE" IN them!
That hope is the surety that the genuinely
saved will live with Jesus FOREVER!

That hope is demonstrated, because it bears
    "fruit!" (vs 6)
Epaphras had "declared" it to Paul.

Perhaps you've heard the old quip: "You
can't keep a secret on the farm; because the
potatoes have eyes, the corn has ears, and
    the beans talk."

*If the love of Christ is IN you, you HAVE that
HOPE of eternal life with Him!
*If the love of Christ is IN you, you HAVE that
    love for all the saints!
*AND, if the Love of Christ is IN you, it was
    GIVEN by God's Holy Spirit.
*AND, God's Holy Spirit will cause you to
    DECLARE that love to others!!

One CANNOT keep the love of Christ IN them
    a secret!

When you light a fire in your fireplace, the
    smoke rises through your chimney.
Everyone around you can tell you have a
    fire in the fireplace.

The love of Christ WITHIN you DEMANDS
    to be SHOWN!

    Love ya!

        Today's Devotion:
        "GROWING toward MATURITY"

Maturity is knowing you haven't achieved
it, and continuing to pursue it.

        _______SCRIPTURE____________

        Eph. 4:11-13
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some,
        pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the
        body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith,
and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fulness of Christ:
        KJV

        _______THOUGHT______________

A newborn baby needs HELP to grow.
Then, the child needs TEACHING to grow.
        Then, the child needs ENCOURAGEMENT
        to grow.

ALL Christians are children GROWING to
        be more like Christ.

Therefore, ALL Christians are to exercise
        their gifts:
        1) to help others come to KNOW Christ;
        2) to help others GROW in Christ.

((I remember a lady who applied this to her
        life in her latter years.
She was bedridden, but EVERY week she
called EVERY member of her Sunday School
class to see if they were ok, and to remind
them to be in Sunday School.
And if one was ill, she called their deacon,
and asked him to go and visit with them.))

WHERE and HOW is YOUR "gift" being USED?
If it is not being used, it is being abused.

HOW LONG are we to EXERCISE our "gift(s)?"
"Till we all come in the UNITY of the FAITH..."

We shall never achieve maturity in the faith
of Christ until we graduate through death and
go to live with Christ forever.

We are to be GROWING toward Maturity!

        Love ya!

          "GIVE THANKS"

Oh Lord, the end of this I cannot see,
But I know You are always WITH me.
Let me pause and give you PRAISE,
For You will KEEP me ALL of my days!

          _______SCRIPTURE____________

          Ps. 140:13
Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto
Thy Name: the upright shall dwell in Thy
          presence.
          KJV

          _______THOUGHT______________

Have you ever faced a difficulty for which
you didn't really see how you could be
          THANKFUL!

Sometimes life just throws us a big curve!
And, we may become unsure of how we
          can be THANKFUL.

That's when we should remember, "the
upright shall dwell in THY presence!"

Just STOP, take a few moments to REST
          and MEDITATE.
Jesus promised to be WITH us ALWAYS!
          (Matt. 28:20)

There WILL come a time when troubles
          shall end!
And, we will be with Christ forever, where
there is no sorrow, crying, dying!

GIVE THANKS even when you don't FEEL
          like it!

We have SO MUCH for which to be
          THANKFUL!

We cannot always control our FEELINGS.
But we CAN control to WHOM we LOOK!

When you look in the face of a huge trouble,
          GIVE THANKS!
          That will change your FOCUS!

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from
whence cometh my help!" (Ps. 121:1)

          GIVE THANKS!

          Love ya!

              Today's Devotion:
              "Two SIGNS of His PRESENCE"

Once we received a card in the mail that
we assumed was an invite to a wedding.

              It read:
"Your presence is a present in itself.
We are not accepting any presents
              at the wedding."

We read that several times, and decided
              we were NOT invited!

              _______SCRIPTURE___________

              Ex. 13:21-22
21 And the LORD went before them by day
              in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way;
              and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light;
to go by day and night:
22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by
day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before
              the people.
              KJV

              _______THOUGHT____________

Is God's presence VISIBLE in YOUR life
              to OTHERS?

As Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt,
God's PRESENCE was made known in
              two different ways:
"pillar of cloud," and "pillar of fire."

The cloud appeared in the day to lead
              them on their journey.
It was a sign of God's closeness and
              guidance.

The fire appeared by night to protect
              them from others.
              Again, it was a sign of God's closeness;
and also a sign of protecting and
              providing for His people.

              Those were VISIBLE signs!

Each day you and I enter uncharted
              territory.
              We've never been here before.
But God knows the END from the BEGINNING!

Instead of facing each day with concern,
worry, or fear - face it with KNOWING God
              is PRESENT!

INVITE Him to be present each day and night!

Invite God's presence with PRAYER, and
invite His presence with Bible study.

Those two things will assure YOU of God's
              protection, provision and guidance.

              And, OTHERS will NOTICE!

              Love ya!

                Today's Devotion:
                "LOVE MERCY GRACE"

In the early 1900's, a pretty young girl
approached the sales clerk at the fabric
                counter in the department store.

She asked with a smile, "How much is that
blue fabric over there. I want to use it to
                make a new dress."

The clerk smiled and said, "Only one kiss
                per yard!"

She smiled back and said, "I want 10 yards."
                Quickly he measured the fabric.
He wrapped it and handed it, teasingly, toward
                the young lady.

Just then, a big muscled gray-headed man
                appeared by her side.

She said, "Grandpa, would you pay the man?"

                _______SCRIPTURE___________

                Titus 3:5-7
5 Not by works of righteousness which we
have done, but according to His mercy He
saved us, by the washing of regeneration,
                and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which He shed on us abundantly through
                Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by His grace, we
should be made heirs according to the hope
                of eternal life.
                KJV

                _______THOUGHT____________

GRACE is when we receive what we don't
                deserve.
MERCY is when we don't receive what we
                deserve.
Christ's LOVE is when we receive what HE
                deserves!

                God created man:
                to SHARE His goodness;
                to REFLECT His glory;
to ENTER a loving relationship with Him.

When we reject that purpose, we SIN
                against God.

In LOVE, God looked down from glory seeing
that we ALL are sinners against Him.
With GRACE, God caused the circumstances
of our lives to EXHIBIT his love.
And, in MERCY, God called us to salvation
and to inherit ALL that He has for us!

Jesus went to the cross for ALL people!
There, He received what we deserved.
By His death on the cross He paid the price
ALL of us deserved in His own blood.

His love poured out grace and mercy for ALL
                mankind.

Jesus OFFERS ALL HE HAS for us!

The question is: Have you RECEIVED it?

                Love ya!

                  "AVOIDING EVIL"

Boy, "Mom, I think you just make up

                  Mom: "What rules?"
Boy, "Like if I don't make up my bed,
a window will open and I'll be sucked

                  Boy, "What older brother?"
                  Mom, "EXACTLY!"

                  _______SCRIPTURE___________

                  1Tim. 4:6-7
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance
of these things, thou shalt be a good
minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in
the words of faith and of good doctrine,
                  whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profance and old wives'
fables, and exercise thyself rather unto
                  godliness.
                  KJV

                  _______THOUGHT____________

Here, the Scripture is speaking of the
                  "latter days."

                  WHEN is that?
                  NOW!!

The scripture is speaking about some who
"shall depart from the faith." (1Tim. 4:1)

                  HOW?
Well, the latter part of verse 1 and verses
                  2-3 tell us.
"...giving heed to sedusing spirits, and
                  doctrines of devils,
2 Speaking ies in hypocrisy, having their
                  conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to
                  abstain from meats."

                  Soothsayers, psychics, fortune tellers, oh-
and horoscopes are "doctrines of devils!"

                  Speaking lies in hypocrisy.
None of that going on today, huh?

Just cohabitate, never make a commitment
to marriage. Yup! That's happening too!

                  Conscience seared!
Simply stated, refusing to LIVE by the TRUTH!

HOW are we to be AVOIDING those things?
Be "nourished up in the words of faith and of
                  good doctrine."

The BIBLE is the FOUNDATION of "TRUTH
                  and GOOD DOCTRINE!"

                  STUDY the Bible!

Don't get "sucked up" into an evil dimension!

                  Love ya!

                      Today's Devotion:
                      "USE the GOSPEL"

A man had read where Jesus said to not
doubt in his heart; then he could say to
the mountain, "Be thou removed and be
thou cast into the sea." (Mark 11:23)

The man was working on a road crew,
and asked God to move the mountain.

Next morning, it was STILL THERE.

                      He asked God, "WHY?"

God said, "Well, I GAVE you a SHOVEL!"

                      _______SCRIPTURE___________

                      1Thess. 1:5-7
5 For our gospel came not unto you in
word only, but also in power, and in the
Holy Ghost, and in much assurance, as
ye know what manner of men we were
                      among you for your sake.
6 And ye became followers of us, and of
the Lord, having received the word in
much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
7 So that ye were ensamples to all that
                      believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
                      KJV

                      _______THOUGHT____________

The Gospel of Jesus is not only what He
HAS DONE; and, it is not only the promises
                      of what He WILL DO.

Christian, the Gospel also includes what
Jesus has done and is doing IN YOU!

When Jesus saves a person, it is by the
POWER of God's Holy Spirit that WORKS
with the Word in "much AFFLICTION!"

What kind of Christian are YOU, "AMONG"
others? (See verse 5 in the text above)

When a Christian gives testimony to his/her
salvation, God USES Holy Spirit CONVICTION!
THEN, the Gospel not only INFORMS, but,
                      when believed, it TRANSFORMS!

Jesus said in Acts 1:8, "But ye shall receive
POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come
upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto
me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and
in Samaria, and unto the UTTERMOST part
                      of the earth."

The MAIN reason why millions are not being
saved today, is because many Christians
                      are not USING THE SHOVEL!!

Christian, if you have HEARD and BELIEVED
the Gospel of Jesus, REPENTED of sin and
COMMITTED your life to Christ, then --

                      HERE IS YOUR SHOVEL!!

Tell others about what God HAS DONE, and
                      IS DOING in YOU!!

                      USE the GOSPEL!

                      Love ya!

                        Today's Devotion:
                        "LITTLE Things"

A man was having problems with his car.
Every time he made a sharp turn, he would
hear a "clunk" in the back of the car.

Finally, he took it to the mechanic shop.
The mechanic came out and did a "test drive."

He came back soon, and parked the car.
He gave the man a bill for $50.00.

                        There was a one-line explanation.
"Blocked bowling ball from rolling in trunk."

                        _______SCRIPTURE___________

                        Matt 9:38
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest,
that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
                        KJV
                        _______THOUGHT____________

It's the "little things" that count!
Sometimes little things become BIG things!

Prayer is not just a LITTLE thing!
Our faith is ENERGIZED when we connect
                        with God in sincere prayer.
Without prayer we lose our trusting connection with God.

That is why Paul encourages us to "pray
                        without ceasing." (1Thess. 5:17)

And, in our SCRIPTURE today, we are
instructed to pray for new evangelistic
Christians to join in the WORKforce!

LITTLE things can become BIG things!
Currently, the world population is about
                        8billion people.
About 28% of them are Christian.

That leaves 72% which are NOT!

                        Yes! The "harvest" through evangelistic
                        effort is HUGE!!!

PRAY FOR WORKERS IN THE FIELD!!

                        Love ya!

                          Today's Devotion:
                          "WATER and LIGHT of LIFE"

Water can symbolize both the unconscious
and the depths of feelings, often depicted
as a source of life and transformation.

                          _______SCRIPTURE___________

                          Ps. 36:7-9
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness,
O God! therefore the children of men put
their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with
the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt
make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy
                          light shall we see light.
                          KJV

                          _______THOUGHT____________

God's lovingkindness is like water, constantly
working its way through obstructions to reach
                          us!

                          God is merciful and kind.
His mercies "are new every morning."
                          (Lam. 3:23)

He is always working and trying to bring lost
                          sinners to salvation.
Those who have trusted in Jesus have found a "fountain of life" that causes them to rejoice in

the eternal salvation that God gives to repentantsinners.

                          LIGHT penetrates darkness.
Those who have trusted in Jesus have found
a "light" that shows truth and leads the way out of the darkness of sin.

One can be "abundantly satisfied" with God's
                          water and light!
His WORD shows the "river" of His "pleasures!"

The Bible is not a small stream which dries up
                          in the summer!
It is a RIVER that pours continually with JOY,
                          LOVE, PEACE and PURITY!

                          The WORD of GOD:
READ, STUDY, LEARN, and MEDITATE on it!

In the abundance of God's life-giving water,
                          many do not drink!

                          Love ya!

                            Today's Devotion:
                            "RELIGION"

TRUE religion is based on surrender to
Jesus Christ as Lord; and ALWAYS
                            portrays Him in our livelihood.

                            _______SCRIPTURE___________

                            Col. 2:6-9
6 As ye have therefore received Christ
Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him:
7 Rooted and built up in Him, and
stablished in the faith, as ye have been
                            taught, abounding therein with
                            thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through
philosohy and vain deceit, after the
tradition of men, after the rudiments
of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of
                            the Godead bodily.
                            KJV

                            _______THOUGHT____________

If your religion is based on what is right
for you, then you probably have never
                            been CONFRONTED by CONVICTION
                            of sin!

                            Jesus said,
"Whoever wants to save their life will
LOSE it, but whoever loses their life
for Me will FIND it!" (Matt. 16:25)

Sin can be defined as the acronym:
                            S imple
                            I nstruction
                            N eglected.

The religion of Christianity is based upon
a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus as MASTER
                            of one's life!

If Jesus is not LORD, He will NOT be
                            SAVIOR!

A.W. Tozer once said, "Faith is the gaze of
a soul upon a saving God. To have found
God and still to pursue Him is the soul's
                            paradox of love."

Don't be fooled by societal standards and
the elementary values of the world.

                            MEET Christ with humility,
                            PURSUE Him as LORD, and
                            SHOW Him in your actions!

Did you know that muscles and dreams of

                              How would you define SUCCESS?
The dictionary says it is reaching a
                              desired outcome.

If you asked the most successful man
that ever lived (Jesus), He would say
"success is doing that for which you
                              were born!"

                              First, Jesus FOCUSED!
He always put the things of God first.
And, He never lost sight of that mission.

                              Second, Jesus WORKED.
Did you know that never went farther
than 100 miles from His home town?
But He WALKED everywhere he went!

One does not have to climb to the top
of the business world; nor, even to the
top of the political world; nor to the top
                              of the societal world.

Paul said, (1Cor. 10:31), "Whether you
eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do
ALL to the glory of God."

FOCUS on doing God's will for your life!
                              THEN, WORK on it!

                              Love ya!
                              Bro. Bruce
