Open doors in the midwest


We are in our 19th year of doing Speaking Truth In Love Ministries, reaching out to support and encourage victims/survivors of abuse and to equip churches to better prevent and respond to abuse.
We had a wonderful conference in Sand Creek, Wisconsin, with attendees and speakers from several states. Even though the issues of sexual abuse and domestic violence are difficult topics, there was a spirit of resolve and determination that they needed to be dealt with. Each speaker emphasized the need for God in the healing process. Experts in the field of mental health talked about brain development and the impact that abuse has on it. We encouraged pastors and church leaders to not sweep abuse under the rug but to deal with it openly and Biblically. We should always report abuse.
We are currently in Minnesota getting ready for an event this weekend. The documentary on Lizzie Hershberger's life, which Faith and I have a small part in, is officially being aired on PBS March 23. A local theater is having three preliminary showings the 20th, 21st and the 22nd. We are setting up our display table for Speaking Truth In Love Ministries at the theater and will be taking part in a Q&A time after each showing.
Then we will be involved in a conference in Ohio in a couple of weeks.
Faith is busy working on her book and hopes to finish editing it before long.

We had a wonderful conference in Wisconsin this past weekend. This weekend we are attending three different showings of “keep quiet and forgive“. This is about Lizzie Hershberger‘s story. Faith and I have a small part in this documentary and we will have our display table set up with our books and information about the ministry at the movie theater. We will also be taking part in a Q&A time at the end of each showing. And I will be doing a five minute introduction before each showing. We will be visiting with some survivors as we travel back to New York next week.

We are celebrating our 18th year doing Speaking Truth In Love Ministries and 7th year doing it full time. We praise The Lord for His grace and provision.

The prayer focus for our Ministry this year is for open doors into more churches. Childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence are not popular topics for guest speakers to teach on, but it is very needed. Statistics show that 25-30% of women and 15% of men were sexually abused by the time they were 18 years old. That means that many people in our churches have been impacted by abuse and when you ad the spouses and children of abuse survivors, the majority of people in our congregations are struggling with these issues and yet we seldom teach what God has to say about abuse.
