I'm telling my story, focusing more on the goodness of God throughout and less on the traumatic events, but here, I'm introducing my old abuser, my former pastor, The Wolf. Something I have been thinking about lately is how false teachers and wolves in the church tend to misuse Scripture to abuse others, and how that then leads people who escape those people/environments to be scared to read the Bible, or to have a difficult time reading the Bible.

And... another bit of baggage we may still carry with us is that we read the Bible to somehow appease God or as a kind of superstitious activity that will help us have a better day. This duty driven perspective on reading the Bible can also make it seem like a chore, and make us less likely to read, or to read and study out of guilt, rather than more a joy and opportunity to delight in God's word, and to be transformed by it through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Next week on my podcast, I'm interviewing a friend and fellow spiritual abuse survivor, and one of the things we are going to talk about is how important Scripture is in healing from spiritual abuse. I hope you will tune in!
