Brave nuns in the Congo urgently need your help amid continuing deadly violence

KIVU, DRC (LifeSiteNews) — A group of nuns supported by LifeSiteNews readers working in the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are urgently in need of support as they aid orphaned children and families who have lost everything.

Communications from the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul have grown increasingly grave as they describe the worsening conditions, even as they thank LifeSiteNews readers for their generosity.

“We Angelic sisters in DRC thank the donors group that is helping us in this crucial period,” began one of the sisters in an email late last week.

“Instead of getting peace the situation is becoming worse,” she explained. “Yesterday, we could not leave our houses because of bombing.”

She continued:

People had been killed not far from our community in Kavumu.

One week ago at Murhesa, another place where our community is located, people have been killed as animals. Houses were burnt. There is no mercy.

You will see in my profile these children that don’t know any more about their families. We live already with them. They cannot either be accepted in the orphanage where we work. The management refused them saying the places are insufficient.

We hope that God will help us one day.

On the following day she described how the violence had crept to within less than a mile of their location. So close, in fact, that she said they were hiding “under beds.”

Despite the years-long strife in the region, the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul have been able to remain faithful to their mission. They’ve sent photos showing what they’ve been able to accomplish despite the ongoing — often deadly, always destructive — violence.

These houses have been built by the money from LifeFunder. I didn’t happen to arrive in an other village because it is not inaccessible because the local fighters live there and are fighting.

To each family whose houses have been destroyed we gave $2,000. We bought some house objects as you can see in the photos below and food and clothes.

All the gratitude to all our (LifeSiteNews) donors.

You did all the things we couldn’t do.

Be blessed you all.
