CVS clarifies no official relationship with Planned Parenthood, still offers abortion pills

(LifeSiteNews) — A CVS spokesperson has informed Fox News Digital that the company has not entered an official partnership with abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

“The team that manages our reproductive health program is unaware of anything related to that organization beyond standard abortifacient dispensing for individuals with prescriptions,” the person said.

In its annual report released earlier this year, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York claimed that it was working with CVS to help women access chemical abortion pills.

“Through our strategic partnership with CVS, patients can now pick up the abortion pill from their local pharmacies,” the report stated.

That language was scrapped and replaced as of April 24, according to Fox News.

“Through strategic enhancements to our telehealth mediation abortion services, patients can now pick up the abortion pill at their local pharmacies,” the report now reads.

The spokesperson confirmed to Fox that it does “not have a formal partnership with Planned Parenthood of Greater New York beyond filling prescriptions.”

While CVS is not officially partnering with Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, it does sell chemical abortion pills. In 2023, pro-lifers in Waco, Texas, protested outside a CVS after the company announced in January it would sign an agreement with the federal government to dispense the abortion drug mifepristone from its locations.

Fox spoke with Shawn Carney, the present of 40 Days for Life. He said CVS is “downplaying their role” but in reality is “just distributing abortion pills — that’s exactly what Planned Parenthood wants them to do.”

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York praised CVS in its own statement to Fox, noting that “we are happy our patients are able to fill their abortion pill prescriptions at local pharmacies, including CVS, which expands access to critical healthcare.”

Earlier this month, GOP Senator Josh Hawley urged Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to “open an investigation into Danco Laboratories,” which manufactures chemical abortion drugs. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced previously that the government would be studying the safety of mifepristone, only to allow a generic version of the pill to be approved last September.

Many conservative and pro-life voices responded with shock and outrage to the news. The “FDA had promised to do a top-to-bottom safety review of the chemical abortion drug, but instead they’ve just greenlighted new versions of it for distribution,” said Hawley. “I have lost confidence in the leadership at FDA.”
