(LifeSiteNews) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the tomb of Mother Teresa recently as part of his trip to India.
“Mother Teresa left a tremendous legacy of compassion and service,” he wrote on X on May 23. He was in front of the above ground tomb for the saint in the Missionaries of Charity mother house in Calcutta, India.
“I was honored to visit the Missionaries of Charity today to pay homage to her legacy and to see the living example of the Catholic faith in action,” the Catholic secretary of state said.

Rubio is in India as part of trade talks, according to the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, his public support for the Missionaries of Charity is notable given a controversy several years ago involving the ruling government and the Catholic sisters.
Despite the life-saving work of the sisters, the Hindu-majority government has previously targeted them, as LifeSiteNews reported.
In 2022, the government initially blocked the religious sisters from receiving foreign donations, claiming they force Hindus to convert to Christianity.
