EDMONTON, Alberta (LifeSiteNews) — Alberta’s March for Life included a larger number of pro-life Canadian politicians in attendance this year that shows they’re not afraid to stand for “life,” a local pro-life group said.
On May 14, the same day as Canada’s national March for Life in Ottawa, Alberta hosted a march in the province’s capital of Edmonton. According to Prolife Alberta, the large turnout of United Conservative Party (UCP) MLAs is part of a trend that shows more politicians are not scared to display “public courage and public witness” for life.
“For years, many in the media and political class have tried to convince pro-lifers that we are isolated, shrinking, and destined to disappear quietly into history. And yet, year after year, thousands gather publicly to defend the dignity of all human life,” Prolife Alberta said in a message sent to LifeSiteNews.
“This year’s March for Life in Edmonton also saw something else: a growing number of federal and provincial elected officials – MLAs, Ministers, and MPs – standing publicly alongside ordinary pro-life Albertans in the cause for Life,” the group noted.
According to Prolife Alberta, the large showing of MLAs “did not happen by accident” but happened because “people like you kept showing up. Kept speaking up. Kept refusing to surrender to discouragement or silence.”
“Movements survive when ordinary people continue standing publicly and consistently for what is right. This is why public courage and public witness continue to matter,” the group said.
Prolife Alberta noted how the “other side” wants “discouragement” and “exhaustion, for people to “quietly conclude that nothing can change.”
“In short, they want you to give up. But history is filled with people who kept going before victory was fully visible,” the group said. “So today, let this simply serve as a reminder: The cause of defending innocent human life is still worth fighting for.”
As reported by LifeSiteNews, the 2026 National March for Life in Ottawa saw thousands gather to call for an end to abortion, which has taken five million lives in Canada since becoming legal, and demand respect for life from conception to natural death.
In the past, Prolife Alberta has called attention to the fact that babies are being left to die in the province.
Despite the presence of UCP MLAs at the Alberta March for Life, the UCP under Premier Danielle Smith, while far from being pro-abortion, has not made good on a promise to bring forth a referendum to ban late-term abortions.
As reported by LifeSiteNews last year, UCP MLA Jason Stephan spoke in the Alberta legislature on November 19 about late-term abortions, calling for a citizen-led referendum to ban the practice.
However, things may be changing in the right direction.
LifeSiteNews reported that Alberta UCP Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, who has a solid pro-life record, promised that she will look into making sure the law is obeyed regarding babies born alive after failed late-term abortions, saying the law is clear that a child who survives birth “is a human being and deserves respect.”
