Ray Comfort made a âhuge mistakeâ â and he doesnât want to repeat it.
The New Zealand-born evangelist recently held a question-and-answer session through Turning Point USA at Cal State Fullerton, where he faced hecklers who challenged him on Christianity.
There was one problem, though. He said he didnât make it clear enough from the start that he didnât want to hear from people who were already believers. Instead, he told CBN News, he wanted to âguardâ the microphone for agnostics, atheists, and skeptics.
Heâll make sure of that at his next TPUSA event at University of California, Irvine, on Nov. 13.
âOne thing weâve learned,â he told CBN News, â[is] weâve got to keep Christians away from the microphone, because, if a Christian gets to that microphone, it kills the whole thing.â
He went on to say itâs âboringâ for unbelievers to hear Christians bicker about theology.
âWeâll guard that microphone,â Comfort explained, âand say, âThis is for atheists, this is for skeptics, this is for unbelievers, because weâre here for you. And, if youâre a Christian and youâve got problems, weâve got someone over there who can minister to you and give you literature and pray with you, but this is reserved for hecklers.'â
Last month, Comfort told CBN News he âabsolutely admiredâ Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in early September during an open-air event at Utah Valley University.
Comfort said he would not allow Kirkâs violent murder scare him into silence.
âThe day before Charlie was killed, I told our crew, our camera crew and our planning team, that I wanted to go to 13 universities in Southern California,â said Comfort. âAfter what happened to Charlie, I am going to do it. Iâm resolved to do it. I will not fear. Iâll not be intimidated, and I want every Christian to feel that way too because, if Godâs for us, nothing can be against us.â
