(LifeSiteNews) — Footage has emerged showing a man in Jerusalem pushing a Catholic religious sister to the ground and then kicking her.
A 36-year-old man was recently arrested by Israeli police after it was reported that a religious sister was attacked near King David’s tomb in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Newly released video footage shows a man running after the sister, who is in full habit, to push her down to the ground. She falls down face forward on the pavement, and the man starts to walk away, but he then walks back and kicks her while she is still on the ground.
One close bystander simply watches, and another can be seen running toward the attacker, apparently to confront him.

A released photo of the sister, who works for the French School of Biblical and Archeological Research, shows that she suffered a bloody right temple from the attack.
According to AP News, a police video shows the attacker was wearing tzitzit, a tasseled undergarment worn by some observant Jewish men, which is meant to serve as a reminder of God’s commandments.
The unprovoked attack was carried out by an Israeli colonizer, according to the al‑Baidar Human Rights Organization.
Bishop William Shomali told EWTN last Thursday that, since the beginning of this year, “The aggressions against Christians in the West Bank are multiplying.”
Last year in Jerusalem alone, 155 to 181 incidents of assault, harassment, and vandalism targeted at Christians were recorded, according to the Rossing Center for Education and Dialogue and the Religious Freedom Data Center (RFDC).
The coordinator of the Holy Land Christian Forum, Wadie Abunassar, affirmed that attacks against Christians have been growing. He attributed the quick law enforcement response to the attack on the Catholic sister to the fact that it was caught on video.
He feels “great anger on the system and great sadness because I feel that this will not end anytime soon,” he told AP News.
“Many times in such cases there are no arrests and if there are arrests, sometimes after one or two days, (suspects) are released,” he added. “In some cases, the police do not recommend the prosecution to file charges or to indict them. And in some cases, when there is indictment, the indictment is mild.”
Israel Police said Tuesday that they treat “any attack on members of the clergy and religious communities with the utmost seriousness” and apply “a policy of zero tolerance to all acts of violence.”
“In a city sacred to Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike, we remain committed to protecting all communities and ensuring those responsible for violence are held accountable,” Israel Police added.
