Day 4 – Stories from Christmas

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

No matter our age, Christmas teaches us some wonderful truths. So today I offer three stories from people of three different ages.

ADULT: R. Benjamin Garrison wrote: “One Christmas my wife, instead of giving me the usual practical necktie or properly colored socks or needed trousers, gave me what I really wanted: a toy-a computerized chess game. One night, I found myself shouting at the wretched thing, "All right , you idiot, if you're going to cheat, I won't play with you any longer." But Chess Challenger had not cheated. It had made simply (and subtly) a decisive and game-challenging move several minutes before, a move I had not caught. It let me go on making my moves, some rather good, others quite bad, all the while edging toward its own inevitable victory.

This is quite like what God had done in the serious game of life and salvation. Sometime back -nearly 20 centuries ago - God made the decisive but mostly unnoticed move, in sending Christ into the world. That move secured the future. That move guaranteed the outcome. Meanwhile, we are free to go on making our moves on the chessboard of life, some rather good, others unbelievably bad. Yet all the while God is edging us toward the inevitable triumph not over us, but in us.” (1)

12 YEAR OLD: In the book, “Dear God. Children's Letters to God,” one young man wrote, "Dear God, was there anything special about Bethlehem or did you just figure that that was as good a place as any to start a franchise? Your friend, Jim age 12."

5 YEAR OLD: Five-year old Billy was showing his Christmas presents to grandma, when she asked, "Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas?" Billy thought for a moment before he answered, "No, I didn't, Grandma. But that's OK. It wasn't my birthday. "

May this Christmas teach you some wonderful truths and draw you close to Jesus.
