In this fifth episode of Rick and Elaine Discuss the Book of Job it quickly becomes one of those conversations that invites you to slow down and sit with the text rather than rush past it. As we work through Job chapters 4 through 7, the discussion moves naturally between Scripture, lived experience, and honest wrestling with suffering. What stands out most is the care taken to distinguish between speaking about God and actually speaking with Him, especially as Eliphaz’s well-reasoned but misapplied theology collides with Job’s raw honesty. The extended Scripture readings, particularly from the Complete Jewish Bible by Elaine, allow us all to hear the emotional weight of the text and feel the tension that wisdom literature is meant to create.

This conversation highlights how suffering is often misunderstood, how "some" correct theology can still wound when wrongly applied, and why Job’s posture toward God ultimately matters more than perfect explanations. We are so humbled by all of you that are listening and commenting. It means so much to us! We hope you are encouraged and uplifted in this study!

In this episode of Rick and Elaine Discuss the Book of Job, we slow down and sit in the ashes with Job. We wrestle with questions most of us try to avoid. Is God still good when everything is stripped away? What does faith look like when suffering becomes personal, prolonged, and deeply unfair? We explore Job’s silence, his refusal to curse God, and the haunting question posed by his wife, “Do you still hold fast your integrity?” as we unpack what it means to receive both good and hardship from the hand of a sovereign God without losing faith or voice.

This conversation moves beyond tidy answers and into lived theology. We talk through lament, endurance, silence, and the kind of faith that remains intact even when explanations do not come. From ancient mourning practices to the inner battle of temptation, from Job’s unwavering integrity to the power of simply sitting with those who suffer, this episode invites you to rethink how you understand evil, testing, and God’s nearness in pain. If you have ever wondered where God is when life collapses, or how faith survives when words fail, this study will challenge you, steady you, and draw you deeper into the character of God revealed through Job’s suffering.

Well... you asked and so you shall receive! I'm going to release the audio from my study with Elaine Ray Clark on the Book of Job here on our Burros of Berea Podcast feed.

In Episode 2 of Rick and Elaine Discuss The Book of Job, the conversation deepens as we step into one of the most challenging and misunderstood passages in all of Scripture. Together, Elaine Ray Clark and I wrestle honestly with suffering, testing, and the role of the accuser in the Book of Job. This is not a lecture and it is not a debate. It is a thoughtful, prayerful discussion that invites you into the text as a participant. We explore why Job’s story matters so much today, how ancient readers would have understood the “satan” figure, and why faith that has never been tested is not yet fully known. Along the way, we reflect on real life loss, personal trials, and the deep comfort found in trusting God even when answers are not immediate.

What makes this episode special is not just the theology, but the heart behind it. This is a conversation about loving God in the middle of hardship, about sharpening one another through honest dialogue, and about learning who God truly is through lived experience. If you have ever asked why suffering happens, where God is in the storm, or how faith survives when everything is stripped away, this episode is for you. Join us, share your thoughts, and be part of a growing community that studies Scripture together with humility, honesty, and love. We will read your questions and comments each week as we go, so if you want to interact with us in this study, we welcome you.

Lots of love from Rick and Elaine!

In this episode of The Burros of Berea, I sat down with Brad Robertson, founder of Grace Reach, whose journey from traditional church life through burnout, hyper dispensationalism, and ultimately into fulfilled eschatology is as honest as it is compelling. Brad shares how a lifelong passion for Scripture was nearly buried beneath what he calls “toxic discipleship,” a system that emphasizes spiritual performance over the finished work of Christ. His rediscovery of the gospel of grace radically reshaped not only his theology, but his understanding of discipleship, covenant, and the character of God Himself. This conversation traces how grace, not effort, brought clarity, freedom, and renewal to his faith, and why so many believers have never truly heard the gospel even after years in church.

What makes this episode especially powerful to me personally is how Brad connects fulfilled eschatology to real life application. Rather than treating Revelation as a battleground of charts and timelines, he shows how it proclaims the gospel from beginning to end. The New Heaven and New Earth are not distant abstractions, but the present reality of God dwelling with His people, the water of life flowing through the open gates to heal the nations. Brad’s vision challenges both futurists and preterists to recover the heart of the message: freedom from law based religion, confidence in Christ’s finished work, and a faith that transforms how we love God and others. This is not just a theological discussion. It is an invitation to rediscover joy, assurance, and purpose in Christ today! I hope you'll enjoy this interview as much as I did!

Our first deep dive into the Book of Job surprised even us with how quickly the conversation opened up into the ancient world behind the text. Elaine and I explored Job’s setting in a pre Mosaic patriarchal culture, a world with no Israel, no Sinai, no prophets, and only scattered worshipers of the true God across the ancient Near East. We looked at Job as a righteous man outside the covenant line, who operates as a priest for his family, a man whose name means "he who weeps", and whose story challenges the belief that suffering is always punishment. Job becomes a witness to something bigger: the God who governs all nations, not only Israel, and the God who reveals Himself in ways that go beyond covenant boundaries.

This episode also pulled us into the heavenly courtroom scene, one of the most surprising moments in Scripture, where "the Satan" appears not as a cosmic rival to God but as an accuser who operates only with permission. From there we wrestled with the core question of the book: does Job fear God for nothing? Elaine and I talked through Job’s role as a family priest, the inner world of thoughts and motives, and the way the drama of Job mirrors our own suffering and our own questions. In the end, Job receives something far more powerful than an explanation. He receives a revelation of who God truly is. If you have ever asked why something painful happened, or walked alongside someone who has, this conversation will meet you right where you are.

Merry Christmas Burros of Berea listeners!

This conversation with Nathan Ward is one of the most heartfelt and grounded testimonies ever shared on The Burros of Berea. What begins as a friendly introduction quickly unfolds into a deeply moving story centered on legacy, faith, and the quiet power of lived Christianity. Nathan’s reflections on his grandmother Flora form the emotional backbone of the episode, illustrating how genuine love, sacrificial generosity, and faithfulness can shape generations long before theology ever becomes explicit. His story reminds us that the gospel is often transmitted not through arguments, but through consistent presence, hospitality, and courage in moments of real need. This is an interview filled with memory, grief, gratitude, and hope, told with sincerity rather than polish, which makes it resonate all the more deeply Nathan Ward Interview.

As the conversation progresses, the episode naturally moves from testimony into theology, tracing Nathan’s journey from inherited tradition through ministry, crisis, and ultimately into fulfilled eschatology. What makes this discussion compelling is its tone. Rather than triumphalism or bitterness, Nathan speaks with humility about being shaped by people who loved God even when their frameworks were incomplete. The dialogue models how theological growth does not have to come at the expense of love for the Church or gratitude for one’s spiritual roots. Released on Christmas Day, the interview fittingly closes by reframing the season itself not as a debate over dates or traditions, but as a celebration of incarnation, presence, and giving. It is an episode that embodies the very message it proclaims: truth pursued through love, and faith expressed through lives well lived. I hope you enjoy this testimony as much as I did!

Merry Christmas!!! After having so much fun last year, I am joined once again by my good friend and mentor Gary DeMar for our second annual Christmas movie conversation. What began as a simple holiday movie list quickly turned into a deep exploration of film history, wartime culture, hidden biblical themes in classic cinema, and several forgotten animated gems that place the Bible at the center of the story. From Jimmy Stewart’s real tears in It’s a Wonderful Life to the tense romance of Remember the Night to the surprising theological depth behind the 1939 short Good Will to Men, Gary brings decades of insight that transform these films into something far richer than nostalgia. If you love Christmas or movies or hearing Gary unpack the world behind the stories, this episode will be a gift to you.

We also highlight lesser known treasures like Mr. Soft Touch, the unusual charm of Holiday Affair, and the new Best Christmas Pageant Ever from Dallas Jenkins. The conversation is filled with personal stories, behind the scenes trivia, and reflections on the redemptive themes that make Christmas storytelling so meaningful. Whether you are wrapping presents, driving through town to look at lights, or simply trying to enjoy a peaceful moment in the middle of December, this episode will warm your heart and expand your watchlist. Come sit with us, laugh with us, and rediscover the meaning woven into films old and new. Your Christmas viewing begins here.

On Monday, December 1st, 2025, our friend Glenn Hill went home to be with the Lord. Today we are re-releasing his testimony episode to honor his memory and to do what he always wanted to do, tell people about Jesus Christ.

There are people you meet in this life who leave a quiet, unmistakable mark on your soul. Glenn Hill was one of those people for me. He carried himself with a gentleness that never once diminished the strength of his convictions. Glenn was thoughtful, humble, and deeply devoted to understanding the Scriptures. He sought truth not so he could win arguments, but so he could help people find hope. That was who he was at his core.

I had the privilege of calling him my friend. When Glenn came on The Burros of Berea Podcast to share his testimony, I remember listening to him speak with a simplicity and sincerity that is rare in our world. He never postured. He never tried to impress. He just told his story — where he had been, what he had wrestled with, and how the Lord had led him into a deeper understanding of His promises. Glenn believed that the gospel was bigger and more beautiful than most of us ever realized, and he spent his life trying to show that beauty to others.

As an author, Glenn gave us Christianity’s Great Dilemma, a work that challenged many, encouraged many more, and opened doors for conversations that needed to happen. He wrote not to stir controversy but to help believers find the confidence that God’s word is faithful and His story complete. Glenn’s writings continue to comfort and strengthen countless people who, like him, were searching for clarity in Scripture.

But beyond the book, beyond the ideas, what I will remember most is the man himself. Glenn was kind. He was patient. He listened. He asked good questions. He cared about people more than he cared about being right. He cherished his family. He cherished the faith that carried him. And he had a joy about him — quiet, steady, rooted — that you could feel just by being in the room with him.

Losing Glenn hurts. It leaves a space that cannot be filled. Yet I am grateful — deeply grateful — for the time we had with him, for the conversations we shared, and for the example he left behind. His legacy is not only in his book or his ideas, but in the lives he touched, the friendships he formed, and the hope he helped restore in so many hearts.

Glenn finished his race with integrity. He ran it with honesty, humility, and grace. I will miss him. Many will. But I thank God for the gift of his life and for the privilege of calling him my friend.

May the Lord bless his memory and comfort those who loved him, especially his wife, Lila, and his children.

                    I hope it's a blessing.

I sit down with author and teacher David A. Holland, whose devotional Praying Grace has now reached hundreds of thousands of readers. Many of you discovered him through his appearance in TBN’s Praise on the Revelation in the Past? episode and YouTube video as well as the God With Us documentary, and this conversation goes even deeper. David opens up about growing up in a world shaped by The Late Great Planet Earth, how fear-based eschatology shaped his childhood, and how a life-changing encounter with the message of grace completely transformed his walk with God. He shares the story of moving from shame, striving, and constant self-examination to discovering the finished work of Christ and learning to pray from victory instead of toward it.

We also talk about his surprising path to national visibility, the behind-the-scenes story of how Matt Crouch discovered his book, and the theological journey that led him away from dispensationalism toward a hopeful, expanding vision of the Kingdom of God. David discusses his upcoming book Now? Or Not Yet?, his insights into Matthew 24, his friendship with Dudley Hall, and why he believes the church still has a long future filled with purpose. It was one of the most encouraging and heartfelt conversations I’ve had on the podcast, and I’m excited to share it with you.
