In this powerful and honest episode, host Shawn Whitson talks with Christy Osborne and Meade, the co-hosts of the podcast But Jesus Drank Wine. They share their personal stories of how they used to depend on alcohol, even while going to church, raising families, and looking like they "had it all together."
But deep down, something wasn’t right.
Christy and Meade talk about how their quiet, daily drinking habits started to control their lives. They believed lies like:
“It’s just a reward after a long day.”
“I’m fine. It’s not that bad.”
“Everyone else drinks like this too.”
They didn’t think they had a “real problem.” But then, little moments started opening their eyes. Meade tells a touching story about her daughter refusing a kiss, saying her breath smelled like wine. That was the moment her heart broke, and everything changed.
Through prayer, surrender, and God's help, both Christy and Meade gave up drinking—not through shame or fear, but through freedom. They began to ask hard questions:
Why do I feel like I need wine to relax?
What am I really running from?
What if I trusted God with this part of my life too?
And the answer was surprising: life without alcohol was not boring. In fact, it was more joyful, more peaceful, and more free than they ever imagined.
Christy and Meade started their own podcast called But Jesus Drank Wine. The name comes from a phrase people often use to justify their drinking. But they flip the story and ask: “What if there’s more to this? What if we’re just using that as an excuse?”
Their podcast is full of hope, laughter, truth, and deep conversations. Sometimes they interview guests like:
🧠 Dr. Curt Thompson – on shame and healing
🧬 Dr. Lee Warren – a brain surgeon who talks about changing how we think
💬 Bob Goff – who shares joy and encouragement
⛪ Pastor David – their biggest supporter and spiritual mentor
Other times, Christy and Meade just talk together about things like:
The 10 best things about never drinking again
How friendships change after quitting alcohol
How confidence and peace grow when you’re free
They don’t plan their answers ahead of time—they just show up and speak from the heart.
One of the biggest things Christy and Meade say helped them was community. They now lead a group of over 160 women who meet weekly to pray, support each other, and walk through sobriety together.
They also:
Lead coaching programs
Host group fasts using Christy’s book Love Life Sober
Help women find their identity in Christ, not alcohol
Many women in their group had no idea that other women in the church were struggling with the same things. It’s become a space where no one has to hide, and everyone can find real friends.
Christy and Meade want you to know: this isn’t about judgment. It’s about being curious. Ask yourself:
Is this really helping me?
What am I believing about alcohol that might not be true?
Is there a better way?
As Meade says:
“This isn’t recovery, it’s discovery.”
They don’t want to just help people stop drinking. They want to help people discover who they are in Jesus and what life could look like on the other side of alcohol.
